What Changes the Price
The height, how much is being removed, how close the work is to the house or wires, and whether a bucket truck is needed. Climbing a tall oak takes longer than trimming a small crape myrtle.
Watch for Topping
A very cheap, fast "trim" that cuts the main branches to stumps is topping. It harms the tree and often leads to a removal later. Ask the crew how they will make their cuts.
When Removal Costs Less Than Trimming
If a tree is mostly dead, badly leaning or far too big for the spot, repeat trimming may cost more over the years than taking it out. A pro can tell which. See tree trimming and pruning and tree removal cost.
